CEU Summer University 2013

The Summer University (SUN) is an academic program for courses for graduate students, university teachers, researchers and professionals in the social sciences and humanities. In 2013, the summer program (June 3 – July 26, 2013) offers a series of intensive one- and two-week courses in the social sciences and humanities to encourage and promote regional academic co-operation and curriculum development by drawing together young faculty in lectures, seminars and workshops. The language of instruction is English.

Financial aid / scholarsips are available. Applications should be received no later than February 15, 2013.

CEU Summer University

Established in 1996, CEU's Summer University program hosts high-level, research-oriented, interdisciplinary and innovative academic courses as well as workshops on policy issues for professional development in the social sciences and the humanities.

The summer school is a meeting place for academics and professionals, eager to look beyond their disciplinary boundaries. During SUN everyone particularly enjoys the exposure to this immense diversity, of countries, disciplines, views, and perspectives. Discussions are encouraged and conducted in an atmosphere of tolerance and intellectual curiosity.

Courses involve distinguished international faculty (including CEU professors), and excellent advanced doctoral students, junior or post-doctoral researchers, teachers and professionals as participants. While application from all over the world is encouraged, continued priority is given to applicants from Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and countries experiencing emerging democracies worldwide. Applicants from these countries, when admitted on merit, will be eligible for scholarship, while those from developed countries will usually be expected to pay fees.

Course offerings cater for the various needs of academic and professional development across a wide spectrum of disciplines. These include anthropology, cultural studies, environmental sciences, comparative religion, political science, public policy, sociology, international relations, legal studies, etc. The program encourages topics in newly emerging fields and transdisciplinary approaches.

The program is unique in its diversity of faculty and student body as well as its academic offerings. It brings together groups of interested individuals to study together intensively for two or three weeks in Budapest coming from an enormously varied geographical, cultural and academic background.

Participants have been accepted into the program from 107 different countries ranging from East and Central Europe and the former Soviet Union to countries of Asia, Africa, North America and South America.

The courses are taught by a team of teachers who also represent a wide range of countries in an effort to match the diversity of the student body.

Professors have come from approximately 62 different countries from the region as well as mostly from Western Europe and America. This exciting multi-cultural composition of the courses provides a stimulating environment for engaging participants and faculty in an inspiring and enriching dialogue during the summer school.

The summer courses are primarily targeted at graduate students, junior or post-doctoral researchers, teachers and professionals.

- Completed online SUN Application Form
- Letter of recommendation
- A full curriculum vitae or resume, including a list of publications, if any
- Statement of Purpose
- Course-specific requirements (research proposal, writing sample, academic records if requested, etc.)

Optional attachments:
- A copy of an article in English published recently (if available)
- A copy of an English language certificate (if available)

The general application deadline is February 15, 2010 (unless stated otherwise in the announcement of a particular course).

CEU Master Scholarships

Central European University (Budapest, Hungary) currently accepts applications for 2010/2011 Master programs in various disciplines (economics, international relations, European studies, gender studies, history, legal studies, political science, etc.). Full and partial study grants are available.

Key admission dates for 2010/2011 Master programs:

- January 25, 2010: For applicants who wish/are required to take the CEU-administered admissions examinations and/or are requesting exemption from the English language proficiency requirement; for all applicants to Legal Studies Department.

- March 16, 2010: For applicants submitting applications complete with language scores and other applicable test scores.

Note that individual CEU departments may provide additional, or extended application deadlines on a case-by-case basis. For further information, applicants should consult the webpages of the relevant department.

3. Academic records (plus certified translation into English if applicable)

6. Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent)

In order to attract outstanding individuals irrespective of their financial situation, CEU offers a range of Master scholarships supporting the majority of students during their studies. Candidates interested in applying for a study grant should complete the Financial Aid section of the online application. CEU Financial Aid is awarded on the basis of academic merit – to students from all around the world.
