BayernMUN 2014

bayernMUN is a Model United Nations Conference that is held in Germany and offers first-class facilities, challenging topics, a competent chair, an environment conducive to professional negotiations and a chance to prove your skills to recruiters and even to find a job. bayernMUN offers a unique Model UN experience by allowing you to work and negotiate together with a colleague delegate, representing the diplomatic interest of your chosen country in a large committee. Our competent conference staff will ensure fair and interesting negotiations, always with an open ear for your needs.

The 2014 bayernMUN conference will be held in Neuendettelsau (near Nuremberg) between February 21st – 23rd 2014.  

The provisional agenda of the 2014 bayernMUN conference includes:
  1. Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms While Countering Terrorism
  2. Promoting Sustainable Development Practices in Transnational Corporations
  3. Addressing the Custom of Child Marriage and its Impact on Girls
To make this variety of topics accessible in a single committee, the bayernMUN conference will be simulating a General Assembly Plenary session. Contrary to NMUN, it will operate with its own agenda.

bayernMUN hosts a select range of companies that are interested in motivated and internationally educated students: As a delegate, you will be able to find internships or even job positions.

Eligibility
This Model UN conference is open to young people interested in representing the diplomatic interests of their country in a large committee.

Costs
bayernMUN operates on a non-profit basis. Costs cover actual expenses. The fee of 129 EUR includes participation, conference materials, first-class accommodation, full board, snacks and beverages during sessions and even job opportunities! Groups of 8 delegates or more may be eligible for a small discount, please contact the organizers for further information.

Application
Please use the online registration formRegistration ends on 31 January 2014. Participation with a committee partner is highly encouraged, as it will provide you with valuable teamwork experience and practice. In this case, registration of both delegates is necessary.

Global Model UN Conference 2010

Global Model UN Conference 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 9-13 August 2010.

Financial aid: students from developing countries may be sponsored

The United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) is organizing the second annual Global Model UN conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 9 – 13 August 2010 (including two days of pre-conference activities), for university students. The conference theme will be “Towards an Alliance of Civilizations – Bridging Cultures to achieve Peace and Development.”

UNDPI is now inviting Model UN programmes around the world to nominate and send us their choice of delegates to be sent to the GMUN 2010 conference. Model UN programmes are requested to fill out the attached forms and submit them to education-outreach@un.org.

Every nominated delegate will have to complete an electronic application process to register for the conference. Please note that UNDPI reserves the right to limit or increase application numbers per Model UN programme to ensure gender balance and socio-economic as well as regional representation.

The criteria for acceptance of delegates are as follows:

∙ Age requirements
All applicants must be at least 18 but not older than 24 years of age by 11 August 2010 and must be enrolled in a university during the 2009-2010 academic year.

∙ Model UN experience
Applicants must have at least one year of Model UN experience (full participation in a Model UN conference as a delegate or member of the secretariat).

∙ Completion of application and other forms
o Proof of enrollment Download form (needs a stamp and signature from your university)
o Scanned copy of your passport ID page (clearly showing your photograph)
o Two letters of reference from your professor / teacher on the letterhead of their respective university
o A writing sample in English or French, with footnoted citations, of no more than 5 pages. For all writing samples, please indicate at the begining of the sample for what purpose and the date (month/year) it was written.

∙ Language requirements
Applicants should be fluent in English and/or French. Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, Spanish and Russian) would be welcomed. UNDPI is looking into the possibility of providing interpretation services in other official UN languages based on need and numbers of delegates from different regions.

All the above must be submitted together by 15 March 2010. The electronic application form with detailed instructions will be posted on the new Global Model UN website soonest. For further questions, please go to the FAQ section of the GMUN website or email education-outreach@un.org.

The UNDPI will try to identify sponsors for students from developing countries who cannot afford to cover their expenses. However, they must show proof of their attempts to raise funds to cover their participation.
